DOWNTOWN NARBERTH, PA
“Narbs” is a pursuit of curiosity for it’s own sake – what makes this place, or any place, special; what makes a place feel like home? Curiosity not only drives me as a photographer but is also the lifeblood of a community as it connects us to our neighbors and the place we share. It’s that curiosity that led me to porches, yards and moments in search of the spirit that courses through Narberth, a place where passion for community endures.
“Narbs” began in my typically small Narberth backyard where the desire to stretch creatively as a photographer crossed paths with my confirmed identity as a Narb. I wielded a 1940s–era Speed Graphic 4”x5” press camera, loaded it with black–and–white film and embraced the profoundly flawed optics of late 1800s / early 1900s brass lenses to capture this spirit. The often ethereal quality of the pictures made through this cumbersome, slow, uncertain process dug itself into my brain and demanded a reason to exist.
